LochWind Rough Collies

Photo Album

Last updated 2004.

In 1997 we began our global search for the best collie bitch we could afford, as the cornerstone of our LochWind Kennels.

But the journey really started in earnest in the year 2000, when our first two imports arrived at LochWind from America.

Since then we have experienced the ups and downs that breeding & showing can provide.

Unfortunately Am Ch Barksdale Patina has failed to produce any live puppies for us, which has been harrowing for all concerned.

By contrast Am Ch Highcroft Caliente has given us three litters, all by different sires, that have provided us with consistent winners at Best of Breed, "In Group" and "In Show" level.

During 2000 we began looking for a high quality, proven stud dog to bring to Australia to compliment our bitches.
By then I had fallen in love with a young American dog called Ch Tartanside Allegiance AOM, who was by Ch Fantasy's Bronze Talisman ROM, out of Ch Tartanside Aliage ROM.
Unfortunately Allegiance was not for sale. But I was very fortunate to be able to secure his younger half brother, from Aliage's next litter, by the Ch Tartanside The Critic's Choice ROM son, namely Ch Tartanside Capital Gain.

During our search we were offered some lovely collies such as Am/Can Ch Highcroft Handsome Hero, Ch Highcroft Mountain High, Ch Countryview Secret Service, Ch Countryview Coloration, Ch Marko's Direct M Pact, Ch Overland Golden Opportunity, Ch Fantasy's Solid Bronze, Ch Fantasy's Fortune Five Hundred. Although we were searching for a stud dog, Debbie Holland included video footage of a beautiful sable bitch she felt we may be interested in, by Am Ch Fantasy's Fortune In Bronze out of Bonham's Cherished Dream.

Regretfully we were unable to take advantage of this offer as we really needed a male at that time -
We had been sharing the get of our imports with Leah & Barry Ryan (Vedamea Collies) at that time and this lead us to suggest that they may be interested in purchasing this bitch, so forwarded the video, with the understanding that in the future a breeding of Juliet to our imported Aliage son, the now dual group winning Ch Lochwynde Legendary, as this would be a breeding very close to that which produced Ch Tartanside Allegiance AOM and thus benefit both parties.

Currently We still look forward with great anticipation to the day this litter eventuates!

Now known as Ch Fantasy's Fait Accompli, Juliet has since her arrival "down under" already rewarded Leah & Barry with a magnificent litter of six, by their own homebred dog Ch Vedamea The Diamond Beau.

A son of this mating, Vedamea I Spy My Fantasy, has produced a quality litter when bred to LochWind Artistique, which includes the promising Ch Vedamea Chic As Elle.
Ch Chic As Elle was awarded Puppy of the Day at the Sydney Royal 2005 and Best of Breed in 2007.

We met mixed fortunes with our two imported males as they were unfortunate to be booked to fly on September the 11th and in fact both collies were in the air when the Twin Towers were hit. The story of what happened to them after that is on our website.

On arrival in Australia, Ch Lochwynde Legendary (USA)(aka - Quinn) first went "east" and covered the Australian bred Ch Vedamea How Sweet Thou Art and Ch Vedamea Chances Ah, thus producing two litters a total of over a dozen puppies, for Leah and Barry Ryan.
Whelped in NSW in November 2002 three pups carrying the Ryan's well known "Vedamea" prefix have been aquitting themselves well around Australia. Vedamea State Ov The Art & Vedamea Change Ov Art both retained by the Ryan's, winning at the Nationals in Adelaide as well as winning well in their home state of NSW.

Vedamea Art Ov Gold (Peaches), came to live with me at LochWind, is a consistent winner here in WA, taking her first 25 point CC at the tender age of 6 months.
Peaches is also the winner of Best Collie Puppy at the Melbourne Royal & Junior In Group at the Perth Royal in 2003.

In 2003/4 Quinn sired his first two litters for us at LochWind.... resulting in ten beautiful healthy puppies from Am Ch Highcroft Caliente (4) and her daughter LochWind Art Award (6). Already making their mark in the show ring, one puppy bitch NZ Ch LochWind Color Coded has been exported to International All Breeds Judge and collie breeder Mr Owen Wright of New Zealand.
We retained two pups from each litter to assess further, hoping they will prove to be of sufficient quality to continue our lines here at LochWind.

Unlike many other collie exhibitors we do not show every weekend and chose only to exhibit at and around the three major All Breed Shows, where there are International and Interstate judges of good standing. Despite these limited opportunities during our brief time in collies, the highlights have been to have won with our home bred stock at each of these three shows.
Perth Royal Show 2002 . Both Challenge and Reserve Challenge Bitch. Best of Breed, Junior & Intermediate in Group.

Western Classic in February 2003. Challenge & Reserve Challenge Bitch. Runner Up Best of Breed. Baby In Group.Again in 2005 Challenge bitch & Best of Breed both days. Res CC Bitch and RUBOB. Res Challenge Dog and Australian Bred in Group.

Collie Specialty Show in June 2003, our collies took out Challenge Bitch, Minor in Show and Puppy In Show.

The memorable Winter Festival Show - July 2003. Definitely the icing on the cake ! LochWind bred collies garnered no less than Challenge Dog, Challenge & Reserve Challenge Bitch, Best of Breed & Runner Up Best of Breed as well as Puppy In Show on day one. Day Two: Challenge Bitch & Best of Breed with our 8 month old puppy bitch LochWind Better B Dazzled, Minor In Group & Puppy In Group on the second day.

Three of our puppies, all between six and eight months old took 25 point Challenges this month. Oh, what a feeling !!!!!

To say we are happy with the progress we have made in such a short period of time is an understatement. We look forward to what the future holds in store for LochWind.

2005 will provide the next step for us in our quest for quality.

Non of this would have been possible without the generosity and help of the following people....

Sandra Yearsley who helped me prepare and show the collies.

Jenny Haynes my good friend, her efforts behind the scenes helps so much to make this all possible

To Leslie Jeszewski of Highcroft & Nancy McDonald of Barksdale both in America, who have trusted me with their collies and over the past three years become great friends and mentors.

Last but by no means least to John Buddie of Tartanside Collies in America. John has unselfishly given me his time and benefits of his knowledge. Giving me the tools to hopefully, have made well thought out decisions regarding the directions I take with my breeding program & selection criteria.

To all these friends, I salute you and hope the future for all of us, is filled with our collie dreams come true.
