LochWind Rough Collies

TRAGIC COLLIE STORY

This poor collie was bred from two collies sold by registered breeders as pets BUT unsterilised!

The lady who bought the two adult Ex-show dogs IS a caring person, make no mistake, I know her!
BUT the male and female have repeatedly bred on the farm and now there are seven collies in residence all originating from the first two collies.
The interbreeding is random and intense
Pups are sold at either the local markets or pet shop outlets. Those not sold remain on the farm to breed even more pups and the cycle is never ending.

Who is to blame?
In my opinion the breeders who sold unsterilsed dogs that were of no further use to them!
Would I like to name them - You betcha!

Solution simple. Sterilise all dogs going into pet homes. If not this tragedy may easily happen again.

"COUPLE JAILED FOR CRUELTY"

Two South West people have been jailed over the death of their dog in what prosecution called "one of the worst cases of neglect" they had seen.
Lee- Anne Sandra King, 29, of Capel and Gary James Pegg, 43, of Dardanup were jailed for four months after they were found guilty on Tuesday of neglecting their rough collie named Tammy.

Bunbury Magistrate's Court was told they kept the dog tied to the carport of their former Brunswick home and did not regularly feed, water, groom or exercise Tammy in the months leading to her death in August.

RSPCA prosecutor Robin Moore said outside court that Magistrate Steven Wilson's sentence was brave, but he did not think it would act as a deterent.

"We suggested that it was one of the worst cases of negelect and ill-treatment that we have come across for a dog" Mr Moore said.

"Hopefully it will set a precedent because people who own animals need to look after them or find another home for them. "but it never seems to work as a deterrent".

w King told the court she did the best she could given she was in a diffcult relationship and fed the dog two days prior to its death.

Pegg whose guilty plea was not accepted prior to the trial said he worked fourteen/fifteen hours a day and did not have the time to care for the dog.

Veterinarian Dr Michael Evans told the court "Tammy was horrifyingly" emaciated when she died and weighed just 9.36kgs! Half the healthy weight range of 18 - 25kgs.

She was infesed with fleas, that would have drained a significant amount of blood.
The dog had no body fat and only grass, hair and sand were found in her stomach.

"It is a disturbing and horrifying case of neglect when the animal was tied up close to the house where its owners would see it it almost every day " Dr Evans said.

In sentencing, Mr Wilson said the case was one of the cruellest things he has seen in a long time.
The dog was "ignored, neglected and forgotten" and Pegg & King showed little or no signs of remorse
